Large green leaf

We’ve heard so many stories about how our clients have been treated like they were crazy by other health professionals—or maybe even feel crazy themselves when they can’t find someone to listen and understand. Let’s talk about how no one at Cormendi Health is crazy.

“I must sound crazy.”

“I know I’m crazy.”

“I know it sounds crazy.”

It doesn’t really matter what you are coming to see me for, just know that I have heard a version of this statement multiple times per day since I started practicing medicine in 2009.

Maybe you’ve looked up something on the Internet. Other times, it’s about a symptom that you have that doesn’t make sense. Frequently, you may not feel well even though all your labs are normal. Sometimes you have a story to tell but no one has allowed you to tell it, so the story comes rushing out all at once.

When we created John Stracks, MD, and ultimately Cormendi Health, we knew that many of our patients have been treated like they were crazy or even feel crazy, so we acknowledged this in the very first and every subsequent version of our Core Values: Nobody here is crazy.

We know that you are coming here because you are trying your best to be healthy. The healthcare landscape is stacked in favor of quick visits and simple interventions; when you’re sick and it’s not immediately clear why, the system breaks down very quickly.

On many occasions, I’ve heard the key piece of someone’s story mentioned 55 minutes into a 60-minute appointment; there’s no way a conventional health practitioner can get to that 55-minute mark in a 15-minute appointment. Other times, people tell me they’ve been to numerous practitioners, but no one offered ideas other than a referral to yet another practitioner. Other clients have had no one who took their ideas about their symptoms seriously.

I learned early on in my career that there’s no substitute for time, for listening, and for caring, so we wrote all of those into our Core Values as well.

When you come to see us here, we make sure that we have plenty of time to hear the entire story. Your story. Sixty-minute appointments are the norm for new patients, and they have been ever since we opened. Even 60 minutes doesn’t always scratch the surface of the story or the issues, so we figure out a way to schedule as much time as we need for you.

I’m also very aware that you bring a level of expertise not just in your particular disease, but a level of expertise in your own self. Our advantage at Cormendi Health is that we know a lot about a lot in medicine, but we also know that you know a lot about your own experience. It would be disrespectful and short-sighted of us not to acknowledge your experience and your research. Instead, we pair your knowledge of you and pair it with our experience and our research so that together we can look for the best possible solution for you.

And we emphasize that we’re not wedded to any particular solution. We’ve learned over time that every single patient is their own person. Randomized controlled trials may tell us on average what works, but you’re not average. You’re you. And you’re going to need what you need, not what anyone else does.

At Cormendi Health, we’re committed to looking as hard as we possibly can to find out why you’re not feeling well and working as hard as we possibly can to help you feel better. That’s our mission, and we take both you and our mission incredibly seriously.

If this sounds like the care you’ve been needing, please visit Cormendi Health and schedule an appointment. We would love to be a part of your healing journey.
